Position Summary:
The Church Maintenance and Janitorial Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all church members, staff, and visitors. This position ensures the cleanliness, upkeep, and minor maintenance of the church building and surrounding grounds, supporting the mission and ministry of the church and St. Ann Discovery School.
Key Responsibilities:
Janitorial Duties (Daily/Weekly): Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, classrooms, sanctuary, parish hall, and offices. Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the building. Sweep, mop, and vacuum all floors and carpets. Dust and clean windows, sills, pews, and surfaces. Replenish supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.). Set up and clean up before and after events, meetings, and services.
Maintenance Duties:
Perform minor repairs (e.g., changing light bulbs, fixing doors/locks, patching walls, painting). Monitor and report larger maintenance issues to church leadership. Address basic plumbing issues and seasonal maintenance. Maintain inventory of janitorial and maintenance supplies. Ensure safe storage and proper use of cleaning chemicals.
Grounds and Exterior:
Light outdoor maintenance including sweeping walkways, picking up debris, and clearing leaves as needed. Mowing/trimming of back portion of property Coordinate with external contractors for landscaping, pest control, or major repairs if required.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow safety protocols and OSHA regulations. Keep janitorial closets and supply areas clean and organized. Ensure building is secured (lights off, doors locked) at the end of shift or events.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous janitorial or maintenance experience required. Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods. Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented. Ability to work independently and follow a cleaning/maintenance schedule. Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Flexible schedule; weekend or evening work may occasionally be required. Use of ladders, cleaning chemicals, and power tools (with training).
