PRIMARY FUNCTION

This position is the custodial leader for a facility 90,000 s.f. or greater, and as such, assumes full responsibility for all custodial responsibilities to include building hygiene, light daily maintenance and basic safety.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:

A GED or a standard high school diploma from a GaDOE-approved and accredited institution is required.

Preferred:

Related technical college courses or supervisory training

Experience, Skill, and Certification:

Previous experience in a custodial or maintenance position, in a lead or supervisory role
Knowledge of the working methods and procedures used in cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings
Knowledge of the qualities and uses of custodial supplies and equipment
Knowledge of care and cleaning of various types of heating and ventilation equipment
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations applicable to schools and related buildings
Ability to plan and organize the work of self and others involved in the custodial care of buildings
Ability to assign, train, and coordinate the work of the custodial crew
Ability to give and follow verbal and written instructions and directions and use a computer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the school by monitoring and performing all custodial activities.
Keeps the assigned work area clean by dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, buffing scrubbing and waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, clean carpets, collecting and disposing of trash and debris from building and grounds, and other related activities.
Schedules the work of other custodial staff; assists in selection of staff and performance evaluations.
Uses appropriate equipment to clean carpets and strip, scrub, buff, and wax floors. Also, uses appropriate landscaping & lawn care equipment to maintain the school grounds to include the use of mowers, trimmers and edgers.
Moves furniture, equipment, & materials and performs all cleaning activities necessary to keep the building clean and safe.
Operates and performs minor service on the heating and cooling system.
Secure school building by locking doors and windows, turning of lights and activating the security alarm. Also, open the school building and complete daily assessment of building readiness.
Provide monthly checks of safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, emergency lights and exit lights.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance to include, but not limited to, changinglight bulbs, clearing plumbing stoppages, changing hvac filters, etc.
Orders cleaning supplies.
Reports necessary repairs and safety concerns to manager.
Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization and the safety of students and staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Grade as determined by Human Resources and allowable experience. The work calendar will be 250 days. Hourly (G-8)

Pushes and pulls brooms, vacuums, buffers, scrubbers, cleaning carts; must bend, stoop, and crawl.
