May include weekends and evenings Reports to: Director of Operations / Facility Manager Position Summary We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Maintenance Porter to join our facilities team at a transitional housing shelter serving families and children in New Rochelle, NY. The Maintenance Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of the shelter and surrounding property, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors. Key Responsibilities Perform daily cleaning of common areas including hallways, bathrooms, offices, and program spaces Handle trash removal and recycling from designated areas throughout the facility Sanitize high-touch surfaces regularly to maintain hygiene standards Assist with light maintenance tasks including minor repairs, painting, and furniture assembly Respond promptly to staff requests for maintenance or clean-up assistance Monitor and replenish cleaning and janitorial supplies as needed Perform routine inspections to identify and report maintenance issues to supervisors Support emergency cleanup efforts as needed (e.g., spills, flooding, snow removal) Assist in room turnovers, including cleaning, furniture setup, and basic repairs Ensure outdoor areas (sidewalks, entryways, etc.) are kept clean and free of debris or hazards Follow safety procedures and wear protective equipment as required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent preferred At least 1 2 years of custodial, janitorial, or general maintenance experience Basic knowledge of cleaning products and tools; ability to safely use maintenance equipment Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and perform physical tasks Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team Good communication skills and a respectful attitude toward shelter residents Prior experience in a residential, shelter, or institutional setting is a plus What We Offer $22.00 – 23.00 per hour Full-time schedule with paid time off and holidays Health benefits available after eligibility period Supportive work environment focused on dignity, safety, and service ReplyForward
