Position Summary :

Provides and maintains a high level of sanitation, general readiness, and appearance of the assigned work area within the hospital. Performs cleaning tasks for assigned areas in the hospital. All interactions are appropriate and specific to the population(s) served. Any other duties assigned to the employee.

Responsibilities:

Following the housekeeping checklist: Cleans, damp wipes, high dusts and/or Vacuums. Cleans window ledges, drapes, floor, furniture, and walls. Empties waste baskets. Wipes down telephones. Cleans and polishes bathroom sinks and mirrors. Cleans and fills soap dispensers, towel dispensers, and cup dispensers. Strips patient beds; cleans and disinfects upon discharge of patient. Cleans floors and ensures there is no trash or debris on floors. Dust mops or dry mops per requirements. Empties all waste baskets. Damp wipes and replaces trash bags with fresh ones. Mops floors and ensures “wet floor” signs are placed in wet areas. Cleans all glass and stainless steel. Spot cleans carpet and upholstery as needed. Cleans and disinfects all equipment. Keeps housekeeping cart locked and secure at all times and is not out of reach or sight at all times. Keeps adequate supplies and notifies the plant ops, supervisor of needed supplies or equipment. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor. Maintains a report of daily activities and work routine. Turns in paperwork daily. Clean mop heads daily. Keep records of the chemicals needed on assigned units. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :
Education:

H.S. Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience:

Prior housekeeping experience preferred.

Other:

Must be able to work alone or with others. Must be punctual and reliable. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Basic or general knowledge of applicable standards and regulations in a health care setting. Must have the ability to maintain self-control in volatile situations.

Work Demands/Environment:

Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and standards of work. Provides leadership and guidance to departmental personnel. Assist in developing the department’s annual budget. Maintains a current inventory of supplies and equipment. Maintains proficiency in all techniques and equipment used by the department. Ensures that a quality standards are met, by inspecting completed work. Supervising floor and cleaning projects in facility from start to finish. Makes recommendations for changes in supplies, equipment or procedures to improve safety and patent care or to reduce cost. Maintains good working relationships with other departments. Help investigate, document and report all unusual occurrences to the Environmental Service Manager. Ensures all equipment is inspected regularly. Ensures that patient care units are adequately stocked of linen. Schedules personnel for proper coverage of the facility. Conducts orientation and ongoing training for departmental personnel. Assist EVS Manager in completing performance evaluations. Participates in information management, performance improvement and infection control programs. Represents and participates in committees and task forces as by the EVS Manager. Assist the EVS Manager in meeting compliance with JCAHO, federal, state and local regulations. Supports and carries out facility policies. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or health care errors.
