Custodians Clean and sanitize kitchen hoods and exhaust fanfilters, mop and sanitize kitchen areas on a weekly basis. Maintaindining and custodial storerooms in a clean orderly state, assist withinventories. Receive and date delivered items and rotate stock asneeded. Dry mop, wet mop, buff, strip and refinish floors: studentrooms, common areas and dining areas. Clean all spaces within assignedareas (i.e., apartments, offices, storage areas, basements, laundryrooms, stairs, custodial closets, exits and ramps, etc.) Routinely washdumpsters, toters and recycling bins. Remove leaves, snow and debrisfrom all entrances of assigned areas. Shampoo upholstered furniture,carpets, walk-off mats and runners in all assigned areas. Performemergency clean-up of floods, spills, breakage, and bodily fluids withinthe building, excluding hazardous materials. Perform non-technical tasksas assigned to include, but not limited to changing light bulbs,cleaning windows, glass and checking fire extinguishers according tomaintenance schedule. Report all necessary maintenance and repair itemsto coordinator, supervisor or designee. Conduct daily buildinginspections for possible safety hazards and report findings to thesupervisor. Maintain positive public relations with all members of thecollege community. Perform tasks for scheduled and unscheduled academic,community events and other activities as required to include, but notlimited to moving, delivering or arranging heavy items, such asequipment, furniture, materials etc., within and between buildings.

Clean, sweep and mop all stairwells from first floor to basement. Removetrash and recycling from buildings, complying with all recyclingpractices. Drive college vehicles as assigned and assist with trucking,when requested. Responsible for cleaning vehicles, inspecting for damageand performing visual check prior to using. Reporting any issuesdiscovered to the supervisor immediately. Must comply with cleaningfrequency requirements as scheduled for assigned areas. Work withstudent workers during break and recess periods. Perform other relatedduties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills,education, experience, certifications, licenses) High school/vocationaldiploma, GED equivalent or combination of education and experience.

Minimum of 1 year (preferred) custodial/housekeeping experience in aservice related industry. Must have a valid driver’s license. Mustcomplete and comply with all College driving credentialing requirementsand obtain DOT certificate. Upon award of this position, a Division ofMotor Vehicles background check will be completed. Must be able tosafely lift and carry up to fifty pounds. Must be able to bend, walk,stand, climb stairs and ladders, and safely operate loaded hand trucksand dollies. Must demonstrate proficiency in accessing the internet,using the Smith College email, finance, payroll and calendar systems aswell as the work order system. Must be able to pass a C.O.R.I check.
