NORTHAMPTON
Trucking Assistant
PRIMARY FUNCTION
(S): Under direction ofthe manager of facilities services or designee, safely and accuratelydeliver materials on or off-campus. Provide backup and assistance toother facilities services staff as assigned.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Trucking all campus, floater all campus, facilities maintenance garagerestroom, project work as assigned.
DUTIES:
Pick-up and delivermaterials from any location on or off-campus, ensuring correct andtimely delivery of materials as directed. This includes, but is notlimited to equipment for event support, furniture, office supplies,books, publications, inventory, packages, mail and any other materialsand/or equipment. Maintain positive customer service relations with allmembers of the college community, including students, faculty, staff,guests and community at large. Search for and implement ways to improveefficiency regarding delivery schedules, transportation, pick-up andreturn of materials. Responsible for keeping material handling equipmentin good working order, reporting broken equipment via work order systemfor repair. Responsible for keeping track of trucking work ordersonline, including changing status in system. Must run completiondeadline reports and general reports utilizing the work order system.
Provide backup and assistance to other facilities services staffincluding truckers and event staff, following established protocols asassigned.
Clean rest rooms:
toilets, urinals, mirrors, sinks, windowsand glass, walls, floors, fixtures, restock paper goods, soap, etc. Drymop, wet mop, buff, strip and refinish floors. Clean all spaces withinassigned areas (i.e., offices, classrooms, labs, storage areas,corridors, custodial closets, etc.) Perform emergency clean-up offloods, spills, breakage and bodily fluids, within the building,excluding hazardous materials. Perform non-technical tasks as assignedto include, but not limited to changing light bulbs, filling/cleaninghumidifiers, cleaning drinking fountains, emptying dehumidifiers,changing screens, opening and closing buildings. Check and clean eyewash stations, emergency showers and fire extinguishers according tomaintenance schedule. Report all necessary maintenance and repair itemsto the coordinator, supervisor or designee. Observe OSHA safetyregulations and practices at all times and participate in requiredsafety programs. Remove ice and snow and perform sanding as assigned.
Drive college vehicles as assigned. Responsible for cleaning vehicles,inspecting for damage and performing visual check prior to using.
Reporting any issues discovered to the supervisor immediately. Performother related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Highschool/vocational diploma, GED equivalent or combination of educationand experience. Minimum of two years’ experience driving a box truckand delivering materials preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must complete and comply with all college driving credentialingrequirements and obtain DOT certificate. Upon award of this position, aDivision of Motor Vehicles background check will be completed. Must beable to safely bend, lift, stoop, carry and move materials up to fiftypounds regularly and up to ninety pounds occasionally. Must be able tosafely load and operate loaded hand truck or dollies. Must demonstratestrong working knowledge in Microsoft Office, the Smith College email,finance/payroll and calendar systems, the work order system as well asaccessing the internet. Must be able to pass a C.O.R.I background checkas well as a fingerprint-based state and national criminal record check.
