Part-time Custodian 3.5 3.5 out of 5 stars 153 Chestnut Street, Southbridge, MA 01550 The Town of Southbridge is seeking a dependable and motivated individual to join our team as a Custodian/Maintenance Worker at the Community Center. This vital role supports the daily operations and upkeep of our facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents and visitors. From routine custodial tasks and grounds keeping to assisting with event setups and minor building maintenance, this position plays a key role in the smooth operation of our community spaces. EOE Position Purpose:

Provides routine custodial, grounds keeping, interior and exterior maintenance work in connection with the care and upkeep of the Community Center buildings and grounds. Support the daily operational needs of the facilities. Performs all other related work as required.

Essential Functions:

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.) Cleans and maintains bathrooms. Vacuums and mops hallways, offices, and activity rooms including the court and exercise areas. Dust surface areas. Sweeps and washes hall stairwells for safe passage. Cleans all interior glass. Empties all trash from offices and bathrooms. Removes snow, ice, leaves, dirt and debris from walkways and stairs to maintain safe entry into Town owned buildings for patrons. Manages the preparation for scheduled meetings, programs and activities as assigned, coordinates with supervisor to determine proper furniture arrangements, technical needs required, or other needs required.. Notifies immediate supervisor of safety hazards or broken equipment. Restock all toilet paper dispensers, soap, and paper towels. Inform supervisor of inventory shortages. Attends training as required to perform duties. Changes light bulbs throughout building as required. Assist departments with moving files and boxes. Assists the Management staff with various projects. Strips, seals, buffs and waxes floors within Community Center. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Education, Training and Experience:

High School education; formal training in various trades including painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing helpful; a minimum of three (3+) years of experience in custodial and/or maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid driver’s license,

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge:

Thorough working knowledge of custodial and maintenance work. Knowledge of cleaning procedures and janitorial techniques. Knowledge of the use of tools, techniques, equipment, and procedures required in the repair and maintenance of municipal buildings and grounds.

Ability:

Ability to plan and prioritize work, be self-motivated, and perform multiple tasks with a timely manner. Ability to perform maintenance and repairs to building and grounds. Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Ability to take responsibility and to work independently.

Skill:

Basic skills in cleaning, repairing, performing preventive maintenance on buildings and equipment. Good communication skills. Skilled in snow removal and landscaping, and the use of tools and equipment used to perform tasks.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires extensive walking, reaching, standing, stooping and climbing when performing functions. Frequently required to lift, move, and/or push equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Physical agility required to access all areas to be painted or cleaned. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Vision and hearing to be correctable to normal ranges. This position must be able to detect odors.

Performs custodial and maintenance functions under specific instructions and with judgment required as to methods or procedures.

Supervision Received:

Works under the general supervision of the Community Center Director; follows established department general and special orders, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
