Lead Custodian
Mt. Blue Middle School
Full - time, year round position; includes storm days, summer breaks & scrub weeks
Job Goal(s):
The goal of a Lead Custodian is to supervise and participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the assigned schools(s).
The position will be a liaison between the custodial department and the administration of the assigned school(s) in order to be able to provide a safe, clean learning environment for students and staff. Qualifications
Self-directed; Motivated; Detail Oriented
Ability to establish a team environment with other custodial employees
Ability to delegate and communicate effectively
Good organizational skills
Knowledge of OSHA regulations
Ability to read and comprehend technical information
Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment
Physical ability to lift 40 lbs, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift, push, bend, and pull for extended periods
Certifications
Holds or is able to hold a valid Maine DOE Background Check
- CHRC
Hold a valid Maine Driver’s License
Education
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Experience
2-3 years experience in custodial and/or supervisory related field
Performance Responsibilities:
Provide direction and supervision to custodial staff Procuring and maintaining custodial supplies for effective custodial department
Maintain communication with custodial staff and school(s) administration
Be a positive role model and have a productive custodial team. Be able to follow district policies; contractual obligations with professional attitude
Be able to use and communicate through district email; Google applications; Schooldude
Wear proper uniform attire and maintains serviceability
Takes responsibility for daily operations of assigned school(s)
Ability to identify and predict budget needs of the custodial department
Serve as resource for all Fire, school safety, and OSHA related procedures and policies
Serve a liaison between school security communications companies and Operations and Maintenance Supervisors; Will be on-call list for security communications.
Be an integral part of building inspections, including fire, safety, and security as needed.
Maintain current SDS Manual for their assigned schools(s)
Perform monthly safety inspections, including, fire extinguishers, exit signs, emergency lighting
Maintain records of all monthly inspections related to safety of assigned school(s)
Participate in all fire, lockdown, lock out, and hold in place drills
Responsible for minor maintenance activities on school and grounds as needed
Practice preventive maintenance on all vacuums, auto scrubbers, carpet extractors, or any machinery used in the custodial department
Responsible for replacing ceiling tiles, lights, batteries in bathroom fixtures as needed
Reporting any other maintenance issues via Maintenance Direct (Schooldude)
Maintain documentation of safety and quality checks as a way to monitor job performance for custodial staff they directly supervise
Participate in Performance Evaluations for custodial staff in assigned school(s)
Be an integral part of training new hires and continual training for custodial staff
Participate in professional development for custodial staff
Maintain a sense of leadership for their assigned school(s)
Participate in monthly walk around with Operations Supervisor Be able to maintain confidentiality
Demonstrates ability to change and adapt quickly to situations
Demonstrates knowledge of custodial equipment, materials, and methods
Discuss problem resolutions in a professional manner
Works closely with Operations Supervisor Complete OSHA 10 Class through Safety Works
Maintain tools and machinery for a effective custodial department
Complete any professional development courses as instructed by Operations Supervisor Must pass a physical exams directed by state requirements and districts stipulations Must become CPR certified; and maintain certification throughout employment
Promptly inform Operations Supervisor of any potential risk factors or problems
Work on development of SOP(Standard Operating Procedures)
Wear proper PPE(Personal Protective Equipment)
Follow all necessary requirements of time clock procedures
Perform any additional duties as directed by the Operations Supervisor
Working Schedule
The Lead Custodian is a 40 hour per week position; there may be some hours in excess of pre-established hours. The position is primarily a day-time position; there may be some required change to shifts based on district needs to cover leave requests and special projects.
Travel Requirements
Travel between schools or district buildings may be required for certain positions
