Job Description

Summary:
  • Performs custodial duties to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the Water & Light Department collections, operations and dispatching offices and facilities.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Cleans various areas, including restrooms, offices, common areas, and other spaces by emptying garbage cans, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing and cleaning windows and glass surfaces.
  • Performs minor repairs, such as replacing light bulbs or unclogging pipes. Ensures that cleaning equipment and supplies are properly maintained and stocked.
  • Conducts security checks, ensuring that building doors, warehouse doors and windows are closed and locked after working hours. Reports any safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Manages and restocks/orders cleaning supplies, including cleaning agents, materials and equipment.
  • Assists with grounds maintenance tasks; keeping sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and grounds clear of debris, snow and ice, paper and trash; cleans water drains/sump hole on building.
  • Assists with receiving deliveries, unloading materials and stocking warehouse shelves as needed.
  • Assists with setting up and tearing down for events, moving furniture and other duties as assigned.
  • Operates Division vehicle, radio and cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaner, buffer and gasoline sweeper.

  • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or Acceptable Equivalent (i.e. GED).
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate (verbally) in a clear and concise manner with work associates and the general public.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Accuracy in basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and knowledge and application of units of measure.
  • REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking in routine and non-routine functions of operation, maintenance and construction of overhead and underground electric utility installations.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Valid driver’s license from the State of Mississippi.

In emergency situations, this employee may be required to assist as a laborer under outside unfavorable weather conditions for the purpose of restoral of utility services with the normal hazards of construction work.
