Job Summary:

Provides a clean environment for students and staff by performing custodial tasks. Work performed, includes but is not limited to assisting in maintaining interior building cleanliness; opening and securing the building; providing unskilled and skilled labor support and providing grounds maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience with custodial/janitorial work is preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in maintaining building and campus cleanliness. Scrubs, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors; cleans restrooms; washes windows and walls; removes trash and participates in other cleaning/disinfecting actions to help keep the building interior clean and healthful
Opens and secures the building. Unlocks building doors prior to school opening; closes and locks windows, turns out the interior lights, checks the entry alarm system and locks doors at the end of school day activities
Provides unskilled and skilled labor support. Moves furniture and equipment; sets up and tears down furniture for special events; strips floors; and performs minor repairs to furniture, equipment and to the building
Performs grounds maintenance. Sweeps and cleans steps and ramps; removes snow and ice from steps and ramps; removes debris from the immediate vicinity of the building; trims weeds; mows grass; and cleans up around outside athletic facilities after school events
Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery

Mechanical skills to operate cleaning equipment and to make minor repairs
Decision making, employee prioritizes routine cleaning and groundskeeping tasks and consults supervisor on all matters not considered routine
Problem Solving matters that are routine in nature

EQUIPMENT

Equipment used includes vacuum cleaner, floor buffer, weed eater and other standard cleaning/groundskeeping equipment

SAFETY OF OTHERS

Some responsibility for the safety of others

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Job is usually performed inside a climate controlled environment, well-lighted building; however, work is also performed outdoors such as mowing the lawn, sweeping walkways, shoveling snow
Working with machines can be noisy, ordinary care and precautions are required
Work involves standing, walking, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling for extended periods of time
Operation of electric, gasoline, or propane powered machinery
Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaner, carpet shampooer, broom, mop, leaf blowers, etc.
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
