The purpose of this position is to provide a clean and safe environment in a variety of buildings throughout the City.

Please Note:

An offer of employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a fingerprint screening. If the incumbent fails to obtain clearance through the fingerprint screening, they will not be able to access all necessary City buildings and therefore, may be subject to termination.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintains walking surfaces by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, buffing, burnishing, stripping, and waxing; maintains equipment used for cleaning floors
Ensures cleanliness of restrooms by disinfecting, filling soap and towel dispensers, emptying trash receptacles, and cleaning stall walls, doors, and showers
Performs window-washing duties by utilizing a ladder or step stool, cloths, windows mops, and squeegees to clean inside and outside windows
Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills, and other woodwork
Cleans kitchen using proper cleaning solutions and personal protection

Supplemental Functions:

Performs other similar duties as required

Knowledge:

Cleaning methods and procedures
Basic cleaning solutions and chemicals
Prioritizing work
Cleaning equipment and preventative maintenance

Preferred Licensing and Certifications:

Valid North Carolina Driver’s License Preferred

Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class require: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking

Medium Work:

Exerting 20 – 50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.
Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, physical hazards.
Required Skills
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Required Experience
The ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
