Summary of Job Duties:

The Union Custodian is a part of the Arkansas Union’s custodial/sustainability team and is among a wide range of full-time positions available at the Arkansas Union. The position’s primary responsibility is to carry out custodial operations as directed for the Arkansas Union while acting as a supplement and resource for the Arkansas Union’s sustainability program. This position also has light administrative duties. The primary duties of the Union Custodian fall into the realm of Custodial Operations. Union Custodians are responsible for regular restroom upkeep such as stocking paper products and wiping down counters, wiping down surfaces in public areas, disposing of loose debris on the floor, emptying trash bins and replacing can liners, cleaning windows, checking for and cleaning up spills, unlocking and locking the facility at appropriate times, and entering work orders for the maintenance team when appropriate. Union Custodians are also responsible for deep cleaning areas such as restrooms, event rooms, appropriate tenant office suites, custodial closets, the custodial operations center, walls, and building floors. Periodically Union Custodians will also be expected to complete more lengthy projects such as waxing/stripping floors, peroxide cleaning of bathrooms, and carpet cleaning. Union Custodians are also expected to complete light administrative duties such as maintaining accurate timeclock records, checking email correspondence regularly, and submitting time in manner which adheres to set regulations. Infrequent responsibilities of Union Custodians fall into the realm of continuity of building services which include assisting other Arkansas Union teams experiencing special circumstances such as staffing issues or assisting in a necessary quick setup change for major events. Union Custodians are considered essential employees during inclement weather events and will be scheduled in consultation with their supervisor as safety permits Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma

At least one year of custodial experience
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques
Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance
Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work
Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors and furniture
Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment
Ability to work independently without close supervision
Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
Ability to perform multiple tasks and to prioritize assignments
Ability to perform repetitive manual work
Ability to do required lifting (up to 50 lbs.)
