Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED. Associate’s Degree preferred
- General knowledge and experience of building cleaning practices,supplies, and equipment and the ability to use them economicallyand efficiently
- Valid TB test and health examination issued by the local countyboard of health of health or recognized medical authority
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
- ServSafe or Safe Plate certification
- Basic computer and cashiering skills
Supervises:
None Essential Job Functions:
- Follows procedures in food preparation, food storage, use andcare of equipment, and personal habits to assure that sanitationstandards are met as required by the Child
- Nutrition Services Office and North Carolina Department ofHealth
- Stocks food in stockroom and cold storage, rotating to accomplishfirst in first out
- Disposes of trash from dish room, kitchen and dining roomareas
- Breaks cardboard boxes down and disposes using recycle bin ifavailable
- Cleans assigned work area to include but not limited to cleaningwalls, walk in freezer, walk-in refrigerator, dish machine, trashcans, dining room, loading dock and mop room
- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes, and buffs floorsurfaces
- Maintains required forms and records as assigned by themanager
- Attends job related training classes and workshops
- Cleans kitchen equipment
- Cleans and sanitizes waste baskets
- Responds to after hour emergencies and works over as needed
- Assumes and performs all other duties and responsibilities as maybe assigned to the position by law, by the Child NutritionDirector, by the Superintendent, and by rules and regulations ofthe Department of Public Instruction, the State Board of Education,and the
USDA Food and Nutrition Service Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below areapplicable to the Child Nutrition Custodian job classificationwithin the Child Nutrition Department of Hoke County Schools. Workin this classification is considered heavy physical work requiringthe exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantlyto move objects.
Must be able to:
- Stand for six continuous hours
- Stoop, squat, kneel and/or bend in a manner that allows the palmsto touch the floor (as in cleaning of baseboards, equipment,etc.)
- Bend from a standing position in a manner that allows the palmsto touch the knees (as in washing pots and pans in deep sinks andcleaning milk boxes)
- Bend from the waist in a standing position with arms outstretchedfor an extended period of time (as in service of food)
- Twist, turn, and/or stretch from side to side that allows theshoulders to be perpendicular to the hips (as in mopping, sweeping,stocking shelves, removing food from ovens, etc.)
- Lift, carry, and/or support 30 pounds from shoulder level toabove the head (as in placing food in ovens, freezers, stockroomshelves, etc.)
- Perform duties requiring non-repetitive motions with hands andwrists (as in slicing, dicing, washing, counting money, writing,scrubbing, scraping, etc.)
- Stock, wash, prepare, serve and handle all types of foods (beaware that some food allergies can be worsened by exposure to menuitems containing those foods)
- Work with caustic and non-caustic chemicals (be aware that skinallergies and sensitivities can be worsened by exposure to somecleaning chemicals; be aware that some breathing difficulties, suchas asthma or emphysema , can be worsened by exposure to cleaningchemicals; rubber gloves and plastic serving gloves areavailable)
- Work in very hot, humid environment (no air conditioning)
- Maintain high standards of personal cleanliness
- Learn food preparation, serving and clean-up procedures
- Learn sound sanitation principles
- Understand and follow oral and written directions
- Read and follow recipes and adjust amounts as needed
- Learn foods, equipment and techniques used in food preparation,service and clean-up
- Read, write and utilize basic math skills (multiplication,division, fractions and decimals)
- Use or learn basic computer skills
- Obtain ServSafe certification or related sanitationcertification
