- Friday This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position This position is the Building Services Second Shift Crew Leader, responsible for overseeing personnel and procedures of all second shift activities of the Building Services unit as well as working weekends as building and programmatic needs dictate. Responsible for late afternoon/evening crew leadership in the absence of the Building Services Supervisor. To maintain clean and sanitary conditions in classrooms, labs, lecture halls, offices, common areas, restrooms and various other areas within Academic, Athletic, and Administrative buildings on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Minimum Education/Experience Required Minimum Qualifications:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, two years of experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Essential Job Duties The Building Environmental Technician performs under the direction of the Building Environmental Services (BES) Zone Supervisor.
Duties Include:
Maintain equipment inventory and repair records.
Compile maintenance checklist and report needs to BES Zone Supervisor.
Complete individual duties and responsibilities as assigned; check the work of other crew members and correct deficiencies.
Test and suggest recommendations on supply and equipment purchases. Other Work Responsibilities Demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in using and caring for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
Adhere to encourage crew members to follow the established Facilities Management Department, UNC Charlotte University, and State Policies and Procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations. Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education High school diploma or GED equivalency.
Two years’ experience demonstrating the ability to operate specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or three years of experience as a housekeeper; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
Ability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
Supervisory experience desired.
Strong customer service orientation.
Effective interpersonal communication skills needed in both written and verbal skills necessary for position.
Computer knowledge and skills with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs needed.
Ability to effectively work/interact in a college atmosphere and to foster and create teamwork and work independently.
Valid driver’s license is required. The Building Environmental Technician operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
Strong attention to details is needed. Necessary Licenses or Certifications Valid Driver’s licenses required for position.
