QUALIFICATIONS
A high school degree or equivalent, and a minimum of 6 months of experience in social work or a related field, including experience working with families and children at risk, plus one to two years of additional relevant experience or formal education in a field related to human services. Family Development Credential training helpful. Knowledge of resources available in the Syracuse area to assist families in crisis. May be required to work flexible hours including evening and weekends. A current New York State driver license with zero points within the last 18 months. Solid speaking and writing skills, and ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more occasionally and perform a variety of routine custodial tasks which include bending, climbing and walking. Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and safety procedures commonly used in custodial work.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide direct care and hands-on assistance with assigned school-age children. Assist children to achieve Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals in areas of education, recreation, and social integration. Advocate for families, and communicate with schools and other entities involved with children who attend the program. Make referrals to other agency departments or programs. Assist in facilitating after-school, summer, and other center activities and outings. Assist in transporting children when necessary. Maintain database and written records of activities and outcomes for assigned children and families. Complete all required reports in a timely manner. Assist with supervising and training of volunteers. Maintain general upkeep and cleanliness of the center on a routine basis and perform other cleaning duties as directed (5 hours per week).
