Position Description
Position Summary Experienced custodial position dedicated to building maintenance and cleaning. In addition, this position is occasionally responsible for the set-up and tear-down of special events, classroom set up, and event support. This position may also supervise a team of work study students.

    Special Working Conditions Must be able to lift 50lbs, stoop, kneel and stretch as demanded by cleaning/event set-up tasks.

Position is scheduled in shifts which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. There will be occasional shift variations to include extended or adjusted hours as needed for coverage. This position is essential; employees providing essential services must report to work as scheduled by their supervisor in the event of an emergency closing or delay. In the event of a snowstorm, this position may be responsible for off-hours snow removal.
Driving Requirements This position requires the operation of a Messiah University owned or leased vehicle and the employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license, meet the established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures as presented in the University Fleet Vehicle Use Policy.
Essential Employee Essential – Emergency Only
Primary Duties 1. Identify and perform daily, periodic and project cleaning/ basic maintenance tasks in assigned areas. Ensure the best possible level of cleanliness.
2. Perform set-up/tear-down of classes, special events, and conference accommodations as needed. This may include moving furniture and equipment. Collaborate with other shifts/departments if applicable.
3. When designated as work study student supervisor: (a) train student workers; (b) monitor and inspect work of student workers; © process student time sheets; and (d) evaluate student workers.
4. Maintain equipment as requested, including maintaining data, repair requests, etc. Communicate concerns related to equipment/facilities immediately.
5. Provide building security by locking and unlocking doors and assisting evacuees during fire alarms.
6. Maintain entries in the Event Description Book as requested.
7. Move furniture and equipment as needed. Collaborate with other shifts/departments as needed.
8. Respond, or coordinate response, to clients’ questions and concerns regarding assigned building. Ensure highest level of customer service.
9. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance
Secondary Duties 1. Provide cleaning coverage for absent employees as requested.
2. Oversee a Student Worker Crew if the Student Supervisor is absent.
3. Assist in the set up and tear down of special events, classroom setup, and event support, as needed.
4. Other duties as assigned.
