Part-time Custodian Borough of Steelton 123 North Front Street, Steelton, PA 17113
General Statement of Duties:
The part-time custodian’s general duties involve maintaining a clean and orderly environment by performing tasks like sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, and emptying trash.
Job Duties and Essential Functions:
The job duties and essential functions for this classification shall include, but shall not be limited to the following: Shall include, but not be limited to, cleaning of all areas, 1-2 times per week, of Steelton Borough Hall, including but not limited to:
- Vacuuming and/or sweeping and mopping of all floors
- Cleaning of restrooms
- Dusting and cleaning of all furniture and fixtures
- Cleaning of windows, mirrors and glass surfaces
- Removal of trash and recyclables
- Restocking of supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, and soap Shall include, but not be limited to, 1 time per week, cleaning of office and restrooms of Municipal Public Works Building, including but not limited to:
- Vacuuming and/or sweeping and mopping of floors
- Cleaning of restrooms
- Dusting and cleaning of all furniture and fixtures
- Cleaning of windows, mirrors and glass surfaces
- Removal of trash and recyclables
- Restocking of supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, and soap Additionally, the custodian shall be required to perform a deep cleaning of Steelton Borough Hall on a quarterly basis, including all of the above-mentioned services as well as:
- Cleaning of blinds, baseboards, and light fixtures
- Cleaning of carpets and upholstery
- Polishing of all hard surfaces The list of job duties and essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.
The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Cleaning Techniques:
Familiarity with various cleaning methods, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and scrubbing, as well as specialized techniques for different surfaces and materials.
Equipment Proficiency:
Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, scrubbers, and power washers.
Chemical Handling:
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, their proper usage, safety precautions, and storage procedures. Attention to
Detail:
The ability to spot and address areas that need extra cleaning or maintenance, ensuring a clean and well-maintained environment. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with the general public, coworkers and Borough officials. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time, and devise solutions to immediate problems.
Physical Requirements:
Climbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Balancing. Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time. Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.

$18.00 per hour Expected hours: 6 – 10 per week
