JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining Town buildings and facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES
  • Performs general custodial maintenance in assigned Town buildings.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of work performed.
  • Performs work in compliance with Town policies, procedures and standards.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, and complaints from Town staff and the public.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixture bulbs, vertical blind slats, carpet tiles or unclogging pipes.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly janitors’ room; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
  • Secures the building at the end of the day, ensuring all lights are turned off, all doors are locked, and security systems (if applicable) are activated.
  • Ensures walkways and parking areas are clean and swept.
  • Removes and replaces liners in trash receptacles as needed.
  • Restocks paper hand towels in bathroom dispensers as needed.
  • Dusts and cleans surfaces including doors, walls, windowsills, bathrooms, refrigerators, microwaves and other appliances.
  • Cleans stainless steel surfaces including elevator interior/exterior surfaces and staircases handrail/guardrails as needed.
  • Vacuums all areas carpeted including but not limited to, cubicles, private offices, council chambers, atrium lobbies, elevators and hallways.
  • Mops all areas with hard surfaces including but not limited to; slate floors, slate staircases, concrete stair towers, kitchenette LVT floors, café tile floor and bathroom tile floors.
  • Minor carpet cleaning at localized spills or stains.
  • Moves furniture as required for cleaning and preparing for events and meetings.
  • Assists in examining town buildings for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to supervisor or building maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing equipment and solutions.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
  • Ability to keep the town buildings clean and orderly.
  • Ability to interact with staff, and visitors at town building while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to work the schedule Monday through Friday 12:00 pm – 8:30 pm with some flexibility and subject to change.
