Position Description Advertised Job Summary Supervises custodial zone operations for the cleanliness, appearance, safety, and maintenance functions of Facilities Department in the buildings of the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus. Performs backup custodial work when necessary. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires 3 or more years of job related experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Driver’s license required. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or GED and 3 years related experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified with 1 year of supervisory and/or lead experience. Job Duties Job Duty Supervises custodial personnel in assigned buildings that are responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and attractive environment, including but not limited to high and low dusting, vacuuming, washing walls, mopping and scrubbing floors, wiping down surfaces, shampooing carpets, and any other cleaning work necessary, by providing direction, leadership, motivation, and on the job training; issuing keys; assigning and reviewing work; completing Employee Performance Management System documents; reviewing, verifying, and submitting labor sheets and leave slips; and assisting departmental human resources in hiring, position management, and employee relations activities while using various computer equipment and software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, AIM, VIP, Internet access, and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty Performs inspections of assigned buildings by walking through and observing interiors of buildings in order to review the work of employees, gather information for developing work orders that are used by maintenance or custodial staff, communicate with customers, check on the need for replacement fire extinguishers, report safety concerns, meet with building liaisons, and provide a visible custodial management presence to staff, professors, students, and visitors. Performs back-up custodial work regularly to maintain the cleanliness and enhance the image of assigned buildings when employee who originally completed the work is not available. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 25 Job Duty Develops and communicates maintenance and special project work orders based on institutional and organizational requirements, site inspections, employees’ reports, and recommendations from building liaisons, deans, department chairs, professors, and other staff to include using the buffer or the pressure washer, cleaning carpets, and the completion of higher level custodial work in research lab facilities, post-construction sites, flooded or otherwise damaged buildings, and when called upon for catastrophic events such as providing evacuee facilities in order to provide a high level of customer service and an attractive and well-maintained campus.
