Job Description
Custodial Supervisor 2.9 2.9 out of 5 stars York County, SC Job Responsibilities Reporting to the Superintendent for Custodial Services, the Custodial Supervisor oversees the work of up to 20 custodial workers and assists with custodial duties as needed to keep assigned buildings and surrounding areas clean. Drives university van to transport work crews and supplies to and from assigned buildings and work sites throughout the day. Assists assigned staff in performing custodial services, including stripping and waxing tile floors, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, cleaning carpets, etc. Regularly checks the work of assigned staff to ensure buildings are clean and that work is done properly. Plans daily and weekly work schedules for assigned staff in consultation with supervisor. Trains new employees in the use and care of equipment and supplies. Maintains supply and equipment inventories, conveys needs to superintendent and makes purchases from Central Supply.

This position may be outsourced later this year as part of the university’s plan to outsource its facilities management functions. Employees may be hired by the selected contractor; if the request for proposals is unsuccessful, employees will continue to work directly for the university. Minimum and Additional Requirements High school diploma. Two years as a custodial professional. Valid driver’s license. Working knowledge of the techniques, practices, supplies and equipment used in the custodial services. Knowledge of the techniques and practices of carpet care and stripping/waxing tile floors. Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to direct the work of others. Ability to drive a university van to transport employees and supplies. Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, co-workers, supervisors and the general public. Preferred Qualifications At least three years of custodial work experience, including supervisory experience. Experience with floor and carpet maintenance and proficiency using related equipment, including buffers and extractors. Experience in a higher education or academic setting helpful.
