Job Description
The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online applications for a Lead Park Attendant with the Parks & Recreation department. The employee p erforms intermediate semiskilled work participating in and leading other Park Attendant’s in building cleaning and maintenance work; does related work as required. Responsible for inventory control of building maintenance supplies and equipment. This is repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of simple building cleaning and maintenance duties. A Lead Park Attendant works under general supervision on routine recurring assignments, receiving specific instructions on each new or unusual assignment. The work is occasionally reviewed by inspection. An employee in this class acts as a working crew leader supervising the work of Park Attendant’s.
Essential Functions of Position:
sweeps, mops and buffs floors, and vacuums carpets; washes windows and polishes furniture; picks up paper and debris on grounds; makes minor repairs to building, building equipment and furniture; empties trash cans and cleans containers; cleans and supplies bathrooms; sweeps and shovels snow; mows grass and performs related grounds and maintenance tasks; assists with landscaping and upkeep of the grounds; ensures building and park security; sets-up tables, chairs, and other equipment or supplies; cleans-up after activities take place; dusts/washes furniture, tables, chairs, counters, vending machines; provides assistance with special activities and events; may assist participants, dispatch vehicles; may fuel, clean and maintain vehicles; responsible for reporting all safety issues related to building and grounds; makes work assignments, trains park attendants and inspects work upon completion; develops written standards for cleanliness of facilities and prepares written park attendant task forms and checklists; services machinery, such as boiler, chiller, heating system, air-conditioning system, auxiliary motors and sound system; responsible for lawn and grounds and supervises their maintenance; cleans and waxes floors; oversees and participates in cleaning buildings and restrooms; receives assignments from superior and relates them to park attendants as the crew leader; makes minor repairs to buildings, building equipment and furniture; keeps records of supplies used; transports staff to and from other buildings for work assignments; performs painting of rooms and hallways; adjusts work schedule for self and seasonal staff to cover evenings and weekends whenever needed; resolves problems and complaints in a prompt and positive manner; performs related tasks as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment, and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to supervise the work of others; mechanical aptitude; and thoroughness.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Completion of high school or GED and considerable building cleaning experience at the level of Custodian; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
