The mission of Magic City Wellness Center at Hanover is to provide residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient care for individuals with eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions through compassionate, comprehensive mental health services within an LGBTQ affirming environment. Job Purpose The Kitchen Assistant aids in meal preparation and service alongside the Chef/Kitchen Manager. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for maintaining an orderly and clean kitchen and maintaining compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations. Duties and Responsibilities Prepare meals for the clients and staff according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, and number of portions to be served. Deliver meals through the presentation of individual plating. Set up and break down meal service which includes cleaning up dishes and kitchen. Begin meal prep for set-up the following day. Assist with stocking refrigerators, inventory of food, and supplies. Assist Chef/Kitchen Manager with maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen by performing opening and closing cleaning tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Responsible for maintaining the kitchen in accordance with county health codes and ServSafe standards. Follow all safety and sanitation procedures as outlined by ServSafe including, but not limited to, wearing hair coverings and gloves in the food preparation area. Observe and respect clients’ individual rights and confidentiality. Assist in the training of newly hired kitchen staff, as needed. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications. Maintain safe food standards including sanitation duties, food temperatures, refrigerator temperatures and food handling. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards clients always. When client needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints, recognizing that client safety is a top priority. Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required Maintains up-to-date, applicable State of Alabama and/or National licenses or certifications. Knowledge of and experience with The Joint Commission Standards and Accreditation Process, preferred. Knowledge and experience working with the LGBTQ community, preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements Must be able to move throughout the clinic property during shifts. Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Other Requirements Obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire. Food Handlers certification within 90 days of hire. Obtain Crisis Prevention certification (CPI) within 90 days of hire. Obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire. Must possess a valid government ID. Must have reliable transportation. Proficient computer skills. Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate positive interpersonal skills. Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.
