Job Description
Supervisor for Ice Cream and Snack Shack Promise Inc Melbourne, FL 32904 Aves’ Place is an enterprise that benefits Promise in Brevard, a housing community several miles away for individuals with disabilities located in the West Melbourne Community Park. It is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday for Ice Cream, Food, Smoothies, and Coffee. Serve as Opener for shift, which includes setting up food service, equipment and utensils in accordance with specific area needs; checks food temperatures and/or prepares food/beverage areas for daily operations; ensuring dining areas are clean, easily accessible and ready for service; ensuring cleanliness of restrooms prior to service; stocks bakery area ensuring accuracy of item labels; prepares registers for service and unlocks doors, ice-cream windows and flips Open Signs at time of service. During service, oversees overall operation and assists in making of menu items as well as taking orders as needed. Keeps an eye on food items, utensils and paper goods throughout shift and restocks/replenishes when necessary. Brings equipment, including ice cream scoopers, ice-cream topping, bakery and hot dog utensils to dish area to be washed periodically and as needed throughout shift. Oversees dishwasher ensuring sanitary handling; organizes and replaces service ware to appropriate location. Ensures cleanliness of dining area, including tables, chairs, backs of chairs, floors as well as outside picnic tables throughout shift. Ensuring proper change is in the registers at all times while replenishing when necessary. Oversees staff of individuals with and without special needs and provides guidance and positive encouragement while simultaneously keeping them on task and focused. Greets customers warmly and engages in conversation regarding how they heard about us and listening to their feedback regarding our service, when asking if they enjoyed everything. Answers phone and appropriately addresses in-person questions, comments and complaints from customers, while resolving issues in a professional and friendly manner at all times. Contacts Manager with specific questions, concerns and complaints as needed. Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions. Oversees the cleaning/organization of work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropriate to the area of operation. At Closing , ensures staff completes all items on closing checklist; while completing Closer’s own checklist which includes turning off all signage, lights, music, warming equipment, etc., and ensuring all dishes and equipment are clean for the following shift. At Close of Evening Shift, closes both drawers and inputs amounts into terminal, prints reports for accounting and places them in appropriate locations. Ensures all doors and windows are locked and A/C is turned up. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
• Ability to lead staff with and without special needs and possess the ability to coach, lead, teach, and work well with them. Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and service. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions. Ability to read and write. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. Ability to lead and train staff and/or volunteers. Ability to address customer questions, comments and complaints. Ability to handle money and serve as cashier. Ability to operate POS system and void items when necessary. Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects. Ability to multi-task while still remaining in control of the operation and staff, especially during busy times. Ability to work well with others and possess an overall state of positivity and approachability. Ability to learn how to tailor instruction to each staff member while understanding their personalities and the ways they learn best. Ability to greet a wide range of customers, including Promise donors, individuals with special needs, local leaders, children and guests of all ages, with respect and an overall positive and friendly nature. Willing to understand the history of Promise and ability to answer basic questions regarding the organization and its mission. Knowledge of food service lines set-up and temperature requirements. Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards. • Team player, patient, with a passion for the ID/DD community. • Pass criminal history background check, pre-employment urinalysis screening, food safety certification and obtain Basic First Aid Certification.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Considerable physical activity. May require handling of objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions, and minimal exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
