GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB A
School Nutrition Assistant I employee assists other cafeteriastaff through the performance of a variety of skilled tasks,including cashiering. Detailed instructions and work assignmentsare provided at the beginning of each day by the cafeteria managerand/or the designee. These are to be completed in the manner towhich they were proposed. The employee receives limited supervisionon an hourly basis. All employees must follow the Federal/USDA,Local and State regulations and guidelines for all of the SchoolNutrition Programs that the school district has is currentlyoperating. Work is performed under the direct supervision of theSchool Nutrition Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
(Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor doall of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found inpositions within this classification.) Cleans cafeteria equipment including refrigerator, dishwasher, ovenhood, and racks; maintains clean service and storage areas;defrosts, cleans, and fills milk boxes; unloads, loads and operatesdishwasher; maintains clean dish room and stores clean equipmentand utensils; washes, dries, and folds dish towels; cleans diningroom counter tops, tables, and chairs after each meal; sweeps andmops food preparation area and dish room floors; empties diningroom trash containers and disposes of trash; cleans and fillsnapkin, silverware, and condiment holders; assists cook inpreparing and serving food portions; assists in storing fooddeliveries in proper places; prepares and sets out cups and platesfor meals; lifts and carries food cartons, milk bags, garbage bags,and serving containers.

MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
High School diploma or GED / School Nutrition experience ispreferred Completion of Institute of Child Nutrition Certification within90 days of start Attend and actively participate in all job related trainingclasses / workshops Follow required standards of food safety and HACCP in storingand serving Some experience in quantity food preparation preferred Food preparation and standards of sanitation and safety Simple arithmetic, reading skills, and recipe preparation Ability to perceive size and serve standard portions on aconsistent basis Cooking skills to prepare food in a safe and attractiveway Follow daily production plans and complete production sheetsprior to each day’s departure Coordinating skills to maintain records of food products usedand money received from students Administrative skills to direct daily operation of cafeteria inmanager’s absence Communication skills to communicate effectively with students,staff and parents Manual skills for cleaning and sanitizing food preparationequipment Mechanical skills to safely operate kitchen equipment Planning skills in forecasting cooking time Common arithmetical skills in counting money for deposit andmeasurements in recipes Software/word processing skills to operate computer to recordcustomer accounts and to possibly assist manager with daily,weekly, monthly and yearly reports Communicates in a positive manner with students, staff,parents, outside vendors and co-workers Must wear the appropriate clean uniform and shoes as designatedby the School Nutrition Director
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a school kitchen environment wheretemperatures from hot ovens, steamers, and dishwashers can causediscomfort Noise from students and kitchen equipment can be excessive Injuries from kitchen equipment are possible; safety rules,training and protective equipment are required Considerable responsibilities for the safety of others byassuring meals are prepared in a safe and sanitary manner
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work involves sustained standing and frequent lifting Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally,and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 poundsof force constantly to move objects Must be able to physically perform the basic life operationalfunctions of fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitivemotions.
