Job Description
Cook – Council On Aging Description The Cook is responsible forpreparing and cooking an average of 160 meals per day served both onsite or distributed through the ?Meals-on-Wheels? program; employeeplans menus according to accepted nutritional standards. Employee isrequired to perform all similar or related duties. Examples of DutiesThe essential functions or duties listed below are intended only asillustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. Theomission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from theposition if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to theposition. Prepares and cooks meals Ensures that all food supplies, andpaper products are ordered and received on time; orders chemicals usedfor the dishwashing procedures. Prepares Meals on Wheels for packagingfor homebound elders. Prepares congregated meals to be served at theSenior Center. Keeps a daily log of all kitchen activity.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:
High School Graduate with three to five (3-5)years prior culinary work experience preferred; or any equivalentcombination of education, training and experience which provides therequired knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essentialfunctions of the job.
Special Requirements:
Must obtain ServSafeCertification within three (3) months of appointment.
Knowledge,Abilities and Skill Knowledge:
Knowledge of food handling rules and goodhygiene practices. Knowledge of nutritional food standards for elders.
Working knowledge of kitchen equipment. Knowledge of personal computersand office software.
Abilities:
Ability to deal with the public in apatient and understanding manner on a daily basis; ability to completemultiple tasks in a detailed and organized manner.
Skills:
Effectiveoral communication skills; good organizational skills; good clericalskills. Physical Demands:
Work requires someagility and physical strength, such as moving in or standing or walkingmost of the work period. The employee is required to lift, push, pull,and carry kitchen equipment and objects. There may need to stretch andreach to retrieve materials.
Motor Skills:
Duties may involveassignments requiring application of hand and eye coordination withfinger dexterity and motor coordination such as the operation of kitchenequipment.
Visual Demands :
Position requires the routine reading ofdocuments and reports for understanding and analytical purposes with theneed for color vision
