We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant to support our café operations while also making a meaningful impact by mentoring individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as they build employment and life skills in a supportive workplace. About the Role As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in the daily operations of our café kitchen—not only by supporting food preparation, cleanliness, and food safety—but also by helping create a welcoming, inclusive environment for individuals with IDD. Reporting to the Café Manager, you’ll work alongside and help guide participants as they gain hands-on experience, fostering independence, confidence, and real-world job skills. Your teamwork and positive attitude will contribute to a mission-driven kitchen where meals are made with care and every person is empowered to grow. Responsibilities Assist in meal preparation and cooking under the supervision of the head cook. Ensure proper food handling and safety practices are followed at all times. Help maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area. Support the team in serving meals to clients in a timely manner. Assist with inventory management and restocking supplies as needed. Participate in training sessions related to food safety and meal preparation. Requirements Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred. Knowledge of food safety standards and practices is essential. ServeSafe Certification preferred; must have or be willing to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
