Food Preparation Specialist NoRa Cafe 12333 Strickland Road, Raleigh, NC 27613
Job Summary:
As a Food Preparation Specialist at NoRa, you will play a critical role in ensuring a high-quality culinary and customer experience. You will be responsible for preparing food and drink items, maintaining cleanliness and safety standards, and working collaboratively with the team to support kitchen and customer service operations. This role requires attention to detail, a team-oriented mindset, and strong time management skills.

Primary Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook food items as ordered by customers. Ensure kitchen cleanliness and comply with all health and safety regulations. Prep the kitchen for upcoming shifts, ensuring readiness and efficiency. Receive, date, label, store, and stock bakery and pastry items appropriately. Produce house-made grab-and-go food items and prepped beverages like iced teas and syrups. Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, and surfaces. Monitor and manage kitchen inventory, including receiving and storing deliveries. Complete and document side work tasks as outlined for kitchen staff. Greet customers and provide an exceptional service experience. Support event catering and food preparation as needed. Assist teammates in different roles, including POS support, drink service, and store open/close tasks.
General NoRa Team Member Expectations:
Use Slack for all communications; read and respond when tagged. Submit and manage availability, time-off, and shift swaps via the 7Shifts app in accordance with NoRa policies. Be punctual and ready to work at scheduled shift start time. Adhere to NoRa’s policies and health protocols, including
COVID-19
guidelines. If required, complete ServSafe and ABC alcohol training certifications. Wear proper attire, including any protective gear like gloves or hair coverings.
Onboarding & Training:
Attend an initial 2-3 shift training/probationary period. Additional training may be required if concerns are noted. Transition to regular status upon successful completion of training.
Compensation & Tip Sharing:
Base pay: $15/hour (training period is not tip-eligible). Tip-eligible for kitchen shifts after training. Tips distributed based on hours worked relative to others on shift. Biweekly payroll includes wages, tips, and any additional compensation.
Availability & Scheduling Requirements:
Availability must be updated in 7Shifts for the next three weeks. Must be available to work both weekend days and will be required to work at least one weekend day per week or four over the course of a month unless otherwise approved. Time-off requests must be submitted at least three weeks in advance. You are responsible for your scheduled shifts or finding coverage following the proper procedures. Performance & Growth:
Formal performance reviews occur approximately six months post-training and periodically thereafter. Evaluations consider performance, feedback, interests, and goals.
