Position Summary:

Kitchen Staff at Veterans Cafe & Museum are responsible for food preparation, cooking, and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen environment. This role is essential to providing high-quality meals and a welcoming experience for veterans and patrons. The ideal candidate is reliable, efficient, and passionate about supporting the cafe’s mission, which includes helping veterans through reintegration programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, and organizing food items as needed for meal preparation. Cook menu items according to recipes and kitchen standards, ensuring quality and consistency. Plate and garnish dishes before they are served to customers. Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage, labeling, and handling of food items. Clean and sanitize workstations, utensils, and equipment regularly. Assist in restocking kitchen supplies, monitoring inventory levels, and notifying the manager when items need to be replenished. Collaborate with kitchen staff and servers to ensure a smooth flow of service. Adhere to Veterans Cafe & Museum standards and contribute to creating a respectful, supportive environment for veterans and team members.

Qualifications:

Experience :

Previous kitchen experience in a cafe or restaurant setting preferred, but training is available for the right candidate.

Food Safety :

Basic understanding of food safety practices (ServSafe certification is a plus).

Team Player :

Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting other kitchen staff and coordinating with servers.

Work Ethic :

Reliable, punctual, and dedicated to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.

Physical Requirements :

Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 lbs, and handle the physical demands of a busy kitchen environment.

Preferred Skills:

Basic knife skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment (e.g., grills, fryers). Attention to detail, ensuring orders are accurate and dishes meet quality standards. Respect for veterans and understanding of veteran culture is a plus.
