Description Position Summary:

In accordance with the YMCA’s Christian Principles, the Swim Instructor will be in charge of all aspects of the Swim Instruction program. You will provide leadership while the class is in progress and ensure all rules are followed while using the facility. These duties will be performed while practicing the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, respect, and Responsibility.

Job Requirements:

Ensure the safety and guidance for all participants and parents. Make sure all safety rules are followed by all. Arrive early to teach. Care for and maintain all equipment used by YMCA. Put all equipment back in the appropriate place after use. Maintain a positive relationship with participants. Provide expertise in teaching swimming. Must attend ALL mandatory meetings. Be willing to do whatever is necessary to make the YMCA Swim Program operate in an efficient and safe manner. Attend all training sessions, unless excused by the Aquatics Director.

The effectiveness of this position can be measured when the various job segments are being met, the participants are having a safe and positive experience, and membership retention is high. Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens
  • Attend required abuse risk management training annually
  • Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Qualifications Must hold and maintain current YMCA or American Red Cross training certifications in the following areas: o CPR/AED o First Aid o Oxygen A commitment to working with children and adults from a variety of backgrounds Must be mature, dependable, and have a proven aquatic background. Must be 15 years of age or older. Must exemplify the character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
