Day Operations:
Directly supervise aquatic staff including lifeguards, swim Instructors and water fitness instructors Identify staffing and training needs; conduct interviews, train, coach and evaluate staff Provide in-service training for skill practice, customer service, and safety procedures on a monthly/bi-Monthly schedule Create staff schedules Cover lifeguard shifts, swim instructor classes, and water fitness classes as necessary
Risk Management:
Organize and conduct ASHI courses for internal and external customers Ensure that all aquatic staff are up to date on all required certifications, at all times Maintain the upkeep of all first aid kits and jump bags to ensure they are stocked and filled. Inventory back-stock and assist the Aquatics Director in ordering new supplies as needed/budgeted
Fiscal Responsibility:
Monitor revenues and expenditures for the Aquatics Department to assure sound fiscal control. Ensure programs are operating within established budgets and identify and perform cost control activities Review and maintain payroll Work with the Supervisor/Senior Leadership Team to handle employee relations and discipline, with documentation, involving aquatics staff and patrons. Along with the Supervisor/Senior Leadership Team and Marketing Department, develop marketing strategy and campaign material for Aquatics including articles, brochures, postcards, program guide entries, audience identification, etc. Utilize excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members, vendors, and the community. Work as a water fitness instructor, lifeguard or swim instructor as needed (lifeguarding 10+ hours per week) Provide leadership and direction in the development of short and long range strategic plans. Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and members. Answer all phone calls promptly. Support and enhance the quality standards of the Aquatic Department as specified by the Aquatic Leadership Team Participate in fundraising events for the branch and Aquatics Department Exemplify the YMCA mission and YMCA character development
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises part-time and non-exempt employees and volunteers within the Aquatics Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Marginal Responsibilities:
Attend required meetings and trainings Assist with special events, both branch and association-wide Serve as Manager On Duty when needed Create WPRs for employees A passion for aquatics, minimum of 21 years old with YMCA or other aquatic management experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred (examples include sports management, exercise science, etc.) Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to communicate with people in a positive but firm manner and possess mature judgment, sound decision-making, and be a team player capable of developing and maintaining relationships with all participants, staff, and the general public.
