POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to welcome a Lead Lifeguard to the team at Northern Regional Recreation Center. This position will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing aquatic activities, ensuring the safest environment for patrons, and enforcing facility safety regulations. In addition, this position will orient new lifeguards and provide training to their lifeguard team. The incumbent can also expect to assist with overall pool operations and maintenance. The preferred candidate will have a passion for aquatics and exhibit strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations. This full-time position will work a varying schedule that may include evenings, rotating weekends, and holidays based on business/facility needs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

StarGuard/Starfish Instructor Certification Experience teaching swim lessons

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on the decks Provide training and direction to lifeguards Instruct participants in swimming or other recreational activities and provide safety precaution information Complete and maintain records of weather conditions, emergency medical treatments performed, and other relevant incident information Maintain quality of pool water by testing chemical levels Inspect recreational equipment and facilities for safety and cleanliness Monitor recreational swimming activities in assigned area; using binoculars to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety infractions Assist with facility maintenance and set up Provide basic First Aid and acts as a first responder in the Emergency Action Plans at Aquatic Facilities Fill in for lifeguards as needed Perform other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:

Must have lifeguard experience

Education:

Must be at least 17 years old and possess at least an eighth (8th) grade education; hold and maintain all required certifications Combination of relevant education & relevant experience accepted?:

N/A Licenses/Certifications:

Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges; Lifeguard certification, CPR certification, First Aid certification

Computer Skills:

Basic knowledge in various applicable computer programs
