DESCRIPTION
The Lifeguard is responsible for promoting a safe and healthy atmosphere in the water area to prevent injuries; and for the administration of the facility’s Emergency Action Plan and for the supervision and education of bathers. The lifeguard will work on Monday and Friday each week.
OUTCOME:
The preschool lifeguard will manage daily activities for a safe and fun environment for all participants. Monitoring and managing participants ages 3-5. The lifeguard will follow the summer program schedule and will be responsible for the safety of participants at all times. The will communicate needs and issues with the supervisor as needed. This position is a summer
position with availability needed June 2- August 8, 2025. Essential Functions Respond to emergencies within the summer programs with good judgment, knowledge, courtesy and professionalism
Serves as a primary responder during summer program Splash Days
The Lifeguard has a duty to act when there is an emergency. A duty to act may include administering CPR or First Aid and utilizing the AED provided.
A duty to act also includes preventing accidents from occurring.
Monitor patron behavior to ensure that inappropriate, reckless behavior does not occur
Contact the Director of Summer Programs to complete forms for accident, incident and maintenance concerns
Responsible for remaining at their post until their shift expires. Lifeguards must never leave their post unattended, even for a minute
Required attendance to area staff meetings and training sessions
Help set up Splash Day
Maintain sanitization of water and water toys
Lifeguards are required to remain in uniform while on duty
Experience and Education Required American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification or the equivalent, as designated by Pennsylvania statute
CPR-FPR Certified and Basic First Aid/AED Certifications
Have clearances for the Pennsylvania Child Abuse Registry, Pennsylvania State Police criminal history check, obtain verification letter from NSOR, and results for FBI fingerprinting.
Have a current staff health assessment, including TB test results.
Have two written references from persons other than family members.
Required Skills and Qualifications Ability to analyze situation accurately and pursue an effective course of action
Ability to work effectively in an early childcare setting with multiple users
Good written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
