Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Housekeeping Manager and/or their designee, the Housekeeper is primarily responsible for the daily cleanliness and sanitation of all assigned common areas, hallways, member units, rest rooms, dining rooms, offices and furniture in accordance with federal, state and local standards and guidelines, and as may be directed by the Housekeeping Manager and/or their designee, to assure that the highest degree of quality member services is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Assures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner. Follows established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies. Follows established Universal Precautions when performing housekeeping procedures. Cleans, washes, sanitizes, and polishes bathroom fixtures. Cleans drinking fountains, and public areas. Cleans windows and mirrors. Cleans floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp or wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting. Uses proper safety signs when performing floor work. Cleans walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, or deodorizing. Removes dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning solutions. Cleans hallways, stairways, and elevators. Discards waste and trash into proper containers and relines trash receptacles with plastic liners. Changes bed linens and exchanges bathroom towels. Reports all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Housekeeping Manager. Reports all unusual resident activity, which might affect the safety or security of other residents, to the Housekeeping Manager. Assures that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift. Reports burned out light bulbs and exit lights to the Housekeeping Manager. Follows assigned work and cleaning schedule as closely as practical. Maintains an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies on assigned cleaning cart. If assigned to the Health Pavilion, coordinates daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in member rooms and Health Pavilion Commons Maintains confidentiality of members PHI (Protected Health Information) and medical records information as well. This position is classified as a level 5 in the ePhi Access Group levels. This position is considered an essential role and the incumbent may be required to work during emergency situations including natural disasters. All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum 8th grade education: high school degree or equivalent is preferred. Six months to one year of practical experience Must be able to read and understand printed instructions for the use of chemicals and cleaning agents Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Able to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions. This individual will need to be empathetic, energetic and have an affinity for working with a diverse senior population.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to read and write, follow written and oral instructions, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to work with the elderly in a courteous and friendly manner, demonstrating patience and compassion. Ability to always perform duties with consideration for residents rights and demonstrate integrity and discretion in the care of residents and in handling their health information. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and motivational skills.

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of medical/nursing practices and procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long-term care. Communicates effectively, both written and orally. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical/Sensory:

On a daily basis, throughout the workday: Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, turning, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling, reaching over the head, grasping with both hands, and fine manipulation. Must have normal eyesight or use corrective lenses. Must have three-dimensional vision and ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to recognize colors. Must be able to hear and distinguish between normal tones and be able to perceive the nature of sounds. Must be able to exchange ideas by means of the spoken word as well as engage in activities to convey detailed or spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, and/or quickly. Must have normal sense of touch and smell.

Environmental Adaptability:

Works in well-lighted, well-ventilated building. Must be able to tolerate occasional exposure to dust, fumes, odors, water, etc., as well as some noise. Subject to frequent interruptions. Subject to hostile or emotionally upset individuals. Must be willing to work, when necessary, beyond normal working hours and on weekends, as well as in other positions as necessary.
