Job Description
Barton-Graves Housekeeper 4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars Wilson, NC 27893 Barton College is hiring a part-time housekeeper for our presidential residence (Barton Graves House (BGH)). This position performs daily, weekly, and project-oriented cleaning, general oversight for the BGH as well as support to the Office of the President as needed for events (approximately 25 hours per week which may vary depending on the season/planned events). Working nights and/or weekends in support of college-related events may be required as needed. Key responsibilities for the
Barton Graves Housekeeper :
- Perform both routine and deep cleaning for 20-room, 7,000 square foot historic home, including porches, basement, Carriage House, and attic.
- Track scheduled and special maintenance needs and reports maintenance needs via work order system
- Receives contractors and house visitors
- Prepares for and restores after special events, including setting a formal table, moving furniture to accommodate event needs, washing dishes and vases, polishing silver, ironing linens, changing guest beds and stocking guest cottage.
- Inventories and restocks supplies, maintains storage areas to optimize access and organization including six sets of fine china, crystal, silver, linens, pantry, and special event items in basement, attic, and remote areas.
- Performs kitchen and laundry support as needed to support Office of the President (does not involve meal preparation).
- Assists with holiday and special event preparations including house decorating (particularly the week after Thanksgiving) and de-decorating (particularly week after New Year’s Day)
Skills, Experience, and Credentials:
- High school diploma or equivalent education, OR 12 months of related work experience required
- Must possess high moral character and an impeccable commitment to confidentiality and discretion. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, directions, labels, and assembly schematics
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, vendors, and the public
- Perform basic maintenance on custodial equipment and operate various powered equipment
- General knowledge of handling hazardous materials
- Knowledge of cleaning agents, materials, and equipment used in custodial functions
- Knowledge of business and dining etiquette to set proper table, relate to vendors, and represent the Office of the
President Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical strength, balance, and reach
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (boxes, equipment, supplies), sometimes while navigating stairs
- Routine tasks such as pushing, pulling, reaching, navigating stairs, balancing, climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
