Housekeeping General Summary :

To maintain cleanliness and order in the work areas assigned. To provide laundered, usable, organized items for assigned persons and departments according to a preplanned workable schedule. To be a contributing interested member of the staff working to promote a pleasant surrounding and positive attitude among the staff and resident members of the Motherhouse.

General Duties and Responsibilities :

Demonstrate proper hand washing techniques and the wearing of proper gloves, etc. in handling soiled material; Demonstrate skill in organizing the placement of articles in the machines to ensure the completion of each day’s work; Demonstrate knowledge of proper policies and procedures when sorting soiled linen and clothing; Demonstrate skill in the proper folding, sorting, organizing, and distribution of linens; Demonstrate the ability to deliver personal or department articles to the proper closets and rooms. Demonstrate the ability to maintain the work area in a neat and orderly manner; Participate in meetings and workshops in or outside the Motherhouse as assigned by Department Head; Maintain equipment in proper clean working order and to position carts etc. in areas that permit safe passage for others; Complete all assigned tasks according to a work schedule that permits all areas to be properly cared for on a daily/weekly basis; Request, obtain, and stock all supplies as needed; Report and requisition repairs as needed to promote a safe and ordered environment. Be willing and flexible in fulfilling duties so that the general order and good of all may be maintained; Be a careful, helpful person while exercising duties in a timely manner; Perform other tasks as requested by the Department Head in connection with the Laundry/Housekeeping; To perform other duties as needed . Qualifications Eagerly works and takes pride in completed tasks; Have knowledge of articles used for cleaning and their application; Willingness to be shown and to learn new methods; The ability to work alone and/or with others on the team as needed; Willingness to communicate; Pleasant, respectful personality; Must be able to work weekends/holidays as needed/scheduled. Experience and Education High School education or its equivalent in experience. Worked in Housekeeping/Laundry in a facility elsewhere. Able to perform Housekeeping/Laundry tasks for self and/or family involving care of clothing machines and other equipment. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift 35 pounds without restrictions; Must be able to work overhead; Capable of bending, pushing, pulling trucks with laundry on them, to fill and empty washers, dryers, etc., in loading and unloading the machines, carts and moving furniture and carts and handling floor machines; General good health to meet attendance requirements and needs of your job; Good mobility as there is much walking and standing for long periods involved in the job; Ability to reach and stretch; Ability to climb ladders and experience heights as needed in doing windows, lights, etc. Must be able to operate related machinery; Large work areas; Exposure to climate changes and temperatures; Exposure to cleaning chemicals and detergents.
