CCBOE Salary Schedule Job Goals:
To assist the bus driver in providing the safest and most efficient transportation for special education students. To provide physical and behavioral care for special education students during transport to and from school.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school Diploma or equivalent. Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Acceptable oral and written communication skills. Ability to address the needs of students with various handicapping conditions. Ability to participate in all required bus aide training and professional development. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, acuity, and emotional health to perform essential functions of the position, including the ability to lift and restrain students of varying age level and sizes. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Assists the driver when requested or required. Assists students requiring help to load or unload the bus. Actively assists the driver when backing the bus, if necessary. Monitors students’ well-being and behavior during the route. Responds appropriately to students’ needs during the route and notifies the driver if an emergency exists, plus assists driver with communication with parents. Assists a substitute or new driver with the route. Assists the driver in keeping the bus clean. Stores and secures all student equipment that is to be transported. Secures special needs students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs (e.g., wheelchairs, seat belts, car seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students. Provides First aid only as trained and required by the situation. Sits where needed on the bus, but not behind the driver unless the bus in empty. Prepares documentation (e.g., incident reports, student count, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information. Provides personal transportation to the beginning of the morning route at driver designated area and back to the school for afternoon route. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies and state, federal, and local laws. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; communicates and arranges for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
