$32.6K – $37.7K a year 1 day ago Qualifications Management Communication skills Entry level Full Job Description The Wakefield METCO Program has a bus monitor position available. This individual will help ensure the safety of all students on the bus as they travel from Boston to Wakefield and from Wakefield to Boston. The hours are 6:00 am-8:30 am and 2:00 pm-6:00 pm.
Expected Duties:
Serve as the primary bus monitor for the AM and PM bus routes, and be vigilant while in the role of bus monitor Monitors all students’ safety and well-being by ensuring they are always seated with their whole bodies in their seats and not in the aisle. Develop relationships with all Boston resident parents/guardians and maintain consistent communication Ensure that every student gets on and off at their designated stop safely Maintain order on the bus. Maintain and update parent contact information and communication log. Assist with conflicts and disputes between students Maintain daily student attendance Report, write up, and discuss all difficulties with students to the METCO Director or the Assistant Principal. Conduct a safety sweep of the bus to ensure no student has been left behind Performs all other duties as assigned by the METCO Director and or Assistant Principal. Participate and attend METCO-related meetings/staff meetings/parents meetings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Patience and empathy, demonstrating understanding and patience with the children of various ages and needs. Behavior management skills, when managing and guiding students’ behavior and enforcing bus rules to maintain a safe environment. Problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly assess and resolve issues as they arise and strong decision-making abilities under pressure. Attention to detail, particularly in monitoring student behavior and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Dependability and punctuality, being reliable and punctual in daily attendance and consistently performing duties and responsibilities. Assist the bus driver with any emergencies, following all rules and regulations as they pertain to school bus safety and evacuation if necessary Maintain regular communication with parents around bus delays and or early arrivals Create and maintain a bus seating chart and or assignments in conjunction with the METCO Director Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately. Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students and adults. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, and students. Ability to stay calm and in control during emergencies. Assist the bus driver with emergencies, following all rules and regulations about school bus safety.
