POSITION SUMMARY
The Camp Counselor engages and supervises groups of children ages 5-12 years old in a variety of sports activities and ensures that they have a positive, enjoyable, and safe experience in group activities. Responsible for carrying out lesson plans designed by Camp Director in a variety of sports, including basketball, flag football, soccer and volleyball. Responsible for maintaining effective discipline and safety procedures during all camp activities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING
Supervise and coach group of 8-10 campers each day Maintain updated rosters and camper forms while on duty Organize, instruct, and supervise children while they engage in group and individual sports activities Interact with parents via phone and email in a professional and polite manner Utilize appropriate behavior management techniques Perform all responsibilities in a manner that guarantees the safety of campers Assist with early morning drop-off and/or late pick-up for camp Assist other counselors/coaches with all camp activities Perform other related duties as directed and/or required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a day camp or sports camp setting working with children Collegiate or high school athletic experience preferred College degree preferred; or currently in school, working towards a degree Varied experience with recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic sports skills and instruction and knowledge of sports rules and regulations Ability to work with and communicate well with children ages 5-12 years and their parents as well as other staff Ability to lead and involve campers in various sports activities Ability to edit MS Word/Excel documents and send email messages with attachments to parents Ability to provide first aid and emotional support and assistance to children ages 5-12 Ability to coordinate the use of facilities and activities for a large group of children Ability to maintain effective relationships with employees Ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, and other staff
Licenses and Certifications:

Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend Must be able to walk to identify problems or hazards as well as work with children during recreational activities
