Position:
The University of West Alabama’s Campus Recreation team is seeking a Graduate Assistant for Fitness Programs. This role supports the development and delivery of fitness services and programming, including group exercise, personal training, wellness education, and facility operations. Ideal candidates are passionate about health, fitness, and student development.
Lead and support group fitness classes, training sessions, and educational workshops.
Provide instruction on safe equipment use and perform regular facility inspections.
Assist in planning and executing fitness and wellness events.
Support hiring, training, and supervision of fitness staff.
Contribute to program development, risk management, and policy enforcement.
Conduct fitness assessments and manage the personal training program.
Help with facility operations, special events, and weekend coverage as needed.
Maintain CPR certification and engage in professional development opportunities.
Job Type:
Part-time, 12-month position, with a $1,000 monthly stipend. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Provided 12-month on-campus housing (includes shared apartment, utilities, cable, and internet, valued at $800/month). Provided Faculty/Staff 50 Meal Plan (this meal plan gives you 50 meals from Young Hall Cafeteria, valued at $460).

Required:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
1-2 years of experience in fitness or campus recreation, preferably in a college or university setting.
Must be enrolled full-time and in good standing with a UWA graduate program.
Current CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain prior to start date).
