A EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATEMENT

Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees may be subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to assist in all facets of coordination, planning and implementation of programming, scheduling and marketing activities in area(s) of assignment at the Norris Community Center for the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department. Employees in this class perform programming, clerical, accounting, and public relations activities that are routine to moderately complex in nature. This position is stationed at the Norris Community Center which operates a 200-seat theater and is home to a wide varsity of live entertainment which includes music performances, comedy shows, film series, conferences, and more.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Sets up and operates the sound and lighting equipment required for live events and shows. Works with projectors, sound systems, microphones, sound mixing and lighting equipment, speakers, overhead projectors, video cameras, recording equipment, etc.
Runs tests on video, audio, and signals and troubleshooting any problems that arise.
Develops close relationships with the performers/clients that utilize the Norris Center Theater. Works to meet performers’ standards by handling equipment malfunctions and executing events smoothly.
Carries out any minor cleaning, maintenance, or repairs on audiovisual equipment.
Performs inventory management on equipment, wiring, and accessories and works with performers on coordinating inventory compatibility for production needs.
Works evenings and weekends based on scheduled shows and events.
In addition, the following is a list of the essential functions for this position:
Performs/assists in program and activities development, implementation and evaluation, including stage productions, special events, tennis leagues and tournaments, pre-school programs, summer children’s programs, crafts, music, children’s holiday and camp programs, interpretive programs, teen and adult programs, , etc.
Assists the general public, both in person and by phone, regarding City, Community Services, programs, etc.; provides information or directs inquiries to appropriate department resources. Directs volunteers, class instructors, instructs classes, fund raising, planning, organizing, setting up and running special events, seasonal preparations, etc.
Develops and promotes advertising and marketing materials and services available through the Community Services Department; prepares fliers, newsletters, newspaper ads, promotions, marketing items, press releases, etc.
Collects, records, and deposits fees; maintains appropriate accounting according to established departmental policy and procedure; performs daily accounting and reconciliation of all monies transacted; and utilizes registration programs in computer to track registration and fee information.
Prepares various records and reports according to supervisor directives, i.e., daily cash reports, attendance records, registration forms, work orders, receipts, vehicle maintenance logs.
Schedules classes, court usage, meetings, transportation, facilities and grounds use, and equipment service, per the particular needs of the area of assignment.
Performs routine cleaning and/or maintenance on assigned grounds, courts, facilities, parks and equipment; inspects such for proper and safe operating condition.
Opens and closes facilities, i.e., locking and unlocking doors and windows, checking lights.
Ensures adequate inventory and supply for area of assignment; reports any damage, losses or maintenance needs to supervisor.
Arranges facilities and equipment according to daily schedules, programs and projects of the assigned area.
Enforces established policy, procedures, and regulations of the area of assignment.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, TDM, Safari, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Ensures all administrative work performed is properly recorded, filed, and processed according to department policy and procedure.
May assume full operational responsibility for an assigned facility, program, and/or project at the discretion of supervisor.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree in related field; supplemented by one (1) year of experience in a recreation, public relations, or customer service capacity, demonstrating customer service, recreation programming, communication, and routine clerical skills; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The City of Naples is a Tobacco-Free Workplace. Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude:

Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning:

Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning:

Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

Physical Ability:

Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements:

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, and/or toxic/poisonous agents, depending on area of assignment.
