The Ruskin Fitness Attendant position allows for graduate students in the health professions to heighten their knowledge and skill set surrounding holistic well-being and health education promotion to students, faculty and staff of various ages, lifestyles, and academic programs and departments. Building and maintaining relationships through daily communications and hands-on support is beneficial for professional development.
Communication:
The Ruskin Fitness Attendant will communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with students, faculty, staff and guests in the Fitness Center and the wider Ruskin campus, both in person and through the various communication media used in the position.

The Ruskin Fitness Attendant will critically evaluate situations, make decisions, and react quickly to conflict or injury, in order to keep patrons safe.
Professionalism:

Position Summary Fitness Center and Front Desk Attendants are responsible for controlling access to the recreation center and buildings while providing a high level of quality customer service. Attendants need to be knowledgeable on the facility and communicate effectively to patrons and coworkers, enforcing the policies and procedures of the facility, and carrying out any additional tasks that may be assigned, with a professional attitude. Attendants oversee the fitness center by maintaining cleanliness and order and are responsible for checking in/out recreation equipment, handling money, and operating fitness center management software. Fitness Center attendants are expected to promote other campus recreation programs or fitness events and classes. All attendants must remain focused in spite of distractions. They must have the capacity to critically evaluate situations, make decisions, and react quickly to conflict/injury, in order to keep patrons safe. Attendants may be included in other tasks around campus as needed. Required Qualifications Enrolled full-time student at Gannon University. Must be CPR/AED certified. Experience must include use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and use of standard office equipment such as copy machine, printer, and telephone. Leadership skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills, working in a team atmosphere, and professionalism. Individual must be able to work with a diverse population that would include students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. Must be able to work independently without direct supervision on day-to-day tasks and be able to take initiative. Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission. Preferred Qualifications First Aid certified. Remain in good academic standing. Previous customer service, sports, or fitness experience preferred. Physical Demands Ability to lift and carry weight, possibly up to 50lbs unassisted. Ability to walk, stand, and move about for approximately 2-8 hours; without access to a chair. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to climb (stairs/ladders) or balance. Ability to walk around building and potentially across campus.
