The incumbents also assist with organizing, modifying and leading recreational activities and events for all groups and are generally supervised by the Park Manager at the site to which they are assigned Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties Supervises one or more participants depending upon participants’ individual needs, and/or need, in sports, games, recreation and athletic activities, including field trips, etc. Evaluates participants’ skill level and assesses capacity to participate in recreational activities. Implements behavior plans, as needed, creates and safeguards appropriate documentation. Assists participants to adapt to activities and facilitates social interactions. Conducts diversified recreational activities which may include but are not limited to: music, dance, arts and crafts, swimming, athletics, games, and fitness programs for all ages and abilities; may be required to prepare fields for various organized games. May assist in preparing attendance and activity reports Compiles and retains records and receipts as directed. Adheres to all check lists, policies and procedures. Provides excellent customer service; reports complaints to supervisors and responds to inquiries from the public; advises the public regarding existing activities. Works toward furtherance of the City’s and Department’s Mission Statements Enforces safety and program/facility rules and regulations. Work is evaluated through observation of their ability to establish rapport with the children they work with and their parents/care takers, and detail, accuracy and timeliness of written reports. Administers basic first aid as needed. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation. Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Ability to report to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements Associates degree or equivalent in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Recreation, or related field, and/or two years’ experience working directly with children and/or adults with special needs required. Shift work may include nights, weekends, and holidays. CPR and First Aid certifications must obtain within 6 months of hire DCF 40-hour Childcare Facility Training Requirement started within first 90 days of employment and must be completed one (1) year from the date the training began. City will pay for the DCF 40 -hour childcare requirements and testing a maximum of 3 takes Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing Applicant must be able to work at various locations and varying shifts, holidays, weekends, and evening hours

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills to communicate and interact with other employees and the public, in person or on the telephone. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, Microsoft Office, calculator, recreation software system, credit card machine, calculator, copier, and fax machine Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling. Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, alone or in a team. The work may be performed while sitting at a desk or table, or while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, delivers tables, chairs, stage panels, etc., and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Applicant must disclose whether they can swim. If applicant cannot swim, they must wear a life vest while on the pool deck and in the pool at all times.
