JOB SUMMARY
- Memory Care ALF Activities Assistant one 10hr day a week
- The 10-hour day will be on a Monday or Thursday.
Assists Life Enrichment Director in planning and organizing programs which contribute to the social, spiritual, and physical well-being of the residents. These programs provide entertainment, intercommunication, exercise and relaxation opportunities to Sunnyside residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Practice caution and proper handling of all hazardous products used in scope of work. Understand how to read/utilize Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Resident Activities
- Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Director, participate in delivering a program of activities suitable to residents in the nursing home including Level B classes for cognitively impaired residents.
- Encourages/promotes and assists with games, hobbies and craft activities among residents in groups or individually, in workrooms, recreational areas, or the residents rooms. Provides instruction and supervision to residents during craft activities.
- Assists department Director in the coordinating and integrating the activities program with other departments.
- Carefully transports residents to and from activities.
- Incorporates safety precautions during all activities and interactions with residents.
- Under the direction of the Life Enrichment Director, assists with recruiting, training and working with volunteers to support their role in providing assistance with resident programs.
- Encourages socialization among residents through group activities and recreation. Assists with outside activities.
- Encourages intellectual/educational development through literature, lectures, movies, cultural events, etc.
- Maintains a record of residents’ activities including attendance and time spent with residents on one-on-one type activities.
- Assists with maintaining a level of supplies, equipment and materials to carry out programs. Report the need to replenish to the Life Enrichment Director. Responsible for appearance of work areas.
- Ensures proper maintenance, storage, care and use of supplies and equipment.
- Provides in-room visitation to those who are room-bound and/or temporarily ill.
- Utilizes a well-stocked activities cart to assure residents in rooms have materials to enjoy.
- Evaluates residents’ reactions during activities and reports unusual observations to the Life Enrichment Director and the Nursing Supervisor. Provides Life Enrichment Director feedback for resident care plans.
- Takes advantage of learning situations and attend in-services as required by 59A-4 regulation.
- Assists with facility decorations monthly.
- Will complete initial and ongoing training Compliance and Privacy training that exhibits behavior as set forth by Code of Conduct in performance of their duties.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Life Enrichment Director.
REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS 1.
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters. 2. Aptitude for assisting with activity programs; trained in arts and crafts. 3. Must maintain resident and employee confidentiality. 4. Professional attitude and appearance with a demonstrated ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. 5. Strong verbal and written communication skills with an attention to detail. 6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and staff. 7. Must be able to adjust as dictated by the residents’ health status and cognitive ability. 8. Basic computer skills preferred to include Microsoft Office and Excel with the ability to learn job related software. 9. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 1.
Strong aptitude for adult activities. Training in arts and crafts and recreational activities desirable. High school education required. 2. At least six month’s experience working in the activity program of a nursing home and under the supervision of a qualified Director of Activities or equivalent experience in a geriatric health care setting. 3.
