Position Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Recreation Programs Aide provides hands-on support for recreational programs, activities, and special events within the City of Fort Pierce. This position is responsible for assisting with program setup, participant engagement, and facility upkeep, ensuring an enjoyable and safe experience for all attendees. The Aide reports to the Recreation Programs Coordinator and works closely with other recreation staff, volunteers, and community partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Assistance & Participant Engagement Supports youth and adult recreation programs, camps, fitness classes, and special events by assisting with setup, operations, and cleanup. Welcomes participants, provides guidance, and ensures adherence to safety and program rules. Assists in monitoring equipment, supplies, and program spaces to maintain a clean and organized environment. Facility & Equipment Management Help with room setup, sports field preparation, and equipment distribution for scheduled activities. Reports on maintenance concerns or safety hazards to supervisors. Assists in organizing and maintaining recreational supplies and inventory. Customer Service & Public Interaction Provides general information about programs, schedules, and facility rules to the public. Responds to participant inquiries and directs concerns to supervisors as needed. Assists in the distribution of flyers, brochures, and promotional materials to increase program participation.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Strong customer service and teamwork skills. Ability to work outdoors and indoors in various weather conditions. Basic knowledge of sports, recreation activities, or fitness programs is a plus. Ability to follow instructions and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Some coursework in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in a recreational, customer service, or event support role. Experience working with youth, seniors, or public recreational activities is preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record. First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within six months).
