COORDINATOR OF SPORT CLUBS AND CAMPS

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Sport and Camp Programs, the coordinator is responsible for training sport club officers and general support for all club members. Additionally, this position is also heavily involved in programming aspects of our youth camp program (Tiger’s Den), including camp curriculum, staff hiring and training, and general day-to-day management of operations.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE

Advise students individually, and as a group, on sport club needs. Serve as a liaison between students and UREC leadership, providing advocacy for the sport clubs program. Management of day-to-day operations for sport clubs to include travel, competitions, leadership opportunities, and general club management. Provide leadership for Tiger’s Den camp staff to include hiring, training, evaluating, and evaluating camp staff.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP

Optimize Sport Club officer trainings Sport Clubs provide an environment in which students learn and develop skills important to them as leaders in and out of the collegiate recreation environment. The coordinator will determine and implement intentional training strategies to empower sport club officers to enhance their leadership skills. Officer development would also include further advancement of the Sport Club Advisory Council. Increase knowledge of Tiger’s Den camp staff The coordinator will have a direct role in the day-to-day management of the camp program. High quality and well-trained camp staff are what makes a difference in any camp experience, even more so when working with children. Our camp counselors are making a transition from working with their peers during the school year to working with children over the summer. Training the camp staff on how to properly interact and work with our camper demographic is a vital part of the continued success of Tiger’s Den.

Can develop a sense of trust among camp parents through active communication and clarity of camp procedures. Familiar with good practices in developing, implementing, and managing camps, with a particular commitment to training staff to properly support children and adolescents.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES

RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Student Support (50%) Advise students individually on Sport Club needs, providing front-line advocacy and support. Conveys department initiatives, values, and goals to students through interactions at programs, services, events, and experiences. Serves as the liaison between students and leadership in UREC. Responsible for direct supervision, training, and development of Sport Club Officers and Summer Camp Staff. Works collaboratively with campus partners to support students. Administrative Support (20%) Responsible for day-to-day administrative management of operations for Sport Clubs and Tiger’s Den Camps. Oversees program assessment efforts and makes recommendations for improvements. Departmental Support (15%) Coordinates logistics and is responsible for one or more programs, events, experiences, or services within University Recreation. Oversees expenditures for one or more events, experiences, or services within Sport Clubs and Camps. Provides feedback regarding departmental programs, equipment, and experiences by engaging in programs and experiences. Contributes positively to the work environment by participating in dialog that is indicative of the division’s and the unit’s culture of teamwork and cooperation. Quality Control (10%) Ensures every aspect of Sport Club and programmatic camp outputs including administrative tasks, implementation, and overall design exudes a high degree of quality. Embraces and executes a commitment to improve the level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in department for continuous improvement every academic year. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Sport and Camp Programs. This includes but is not limited to efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Career Expo, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree with related experience. LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

Valid Driver’s License

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Sport Management, Parks and Recreation, Kinesiology, Higher Education, Business, Public Administration, or related field. 3 years professional work experience with Sport Clubs. 2 years of working experience in youth programs as well as experience in the development and execution of developmentally appropriate youth curriculum.
