Job Description

City of Portland – 62 Program Activity Driver-Recreation Programmer (On Call) in Cumberland County, ME Job Description City of Portland – 62 Program Activity Driver-Recreation Programmer (On Call) Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department The City of Portland Recreation Division is offering a creative opportunity for you to engage with the community as a driver for our 62+ recreation program! This position is responsible for transporting participants of our 62+ Program to and from events, and accompanying participants on trips (shopping, plays, restaurants, etc.). Out of pocket meal expenses are reimbursed, and tickets for trips with entry fees are provided. This position embraces flexibility to select trips and activities at your leisure. Scheduled trips take place between 8-15 times per month. The On-Call Driver is responsible for making sure that the participants are safely transported to and from trips. There is no hands-on work with the 62+ participants, they are independent. Essential Duties

  • Provides transportation to and from events. A participant pick up list with times and addresses is provided 24 hours before departure.
  • Accompanies participants during trips. Activities may include going to the movies, theater performances, restaurants, or walking with the participants during hikes or shopping excursions.
  • Performs a pre and post trip bus inspection, and completes all required documentation. Promptly reports safety and maintenance issues to the 62+ Program Leader.
  • Cleans the interior of the bus, and ensures the condition is satisfactory for the next trip.
Requirements:
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and enjoy working with the community.
  • First aid and CPR certified preferred.
  • Prior experience driving 14 passenger recreational buses preferred.
  • Successful candidates must possess a valid Class C driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
