DESCRIPTION OF WORK
DEFINITION:
To assist in the planning, organization, and supervision of assigned recreation programs, special events, and facilities.
REPORTS TO
Works under the supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS
Assists in the planning and scheduling of recreation programs, facilities, and events. Helps create and develop new program ideas and assists in their implementation.
Organizes and directs programs and special events for all ages.
Adapts recreation programs to meet the needs of the participants and assists recreation program supervisor evaluate and plan programs. Serves as group leader/instructor at special events and programs. Maintains accurate records and prepares necessary written reports.
Enforcing facility’s general rules, policies and procedures with patrons and other staff members
Sets up equipment, tables, chairs, etc. as needed for different recreational activities and special events.
Assists in the training and development of seasonal staff.
Assists in the design of promotional materials such as flyers and brochures for programs and facilities.
Responsible for taking rental and other program payments and following department procedures for cash management
TECHNICAL TASKS
Utilizes computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, design software and/or database.
Performs minor office administration duties such as copying, faxing, filing, payroll etc. as assigned.
Demonstrates accountability and responsibility for completion of work assignments in the absence of a department supervisor; provides responsive and timely feedback to supervisory staff on status and progress of work activities.
Promotes safe work practices and ensures compliance with City safety policies.
Assists in the development of operating procedures, policies, rules and regulations.
Attends meetings and other related events as required.
Maintains individual knowledge and skills to be able to carry out all duties of position.
Handles other responsibilities and duties as assigned or needed

REQUIRED
Any combination of education, training, and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Minimum age 21
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
Knowledge of recreational activities in the areas of youth programs, teen programs, adult programs, outdoor initiatives, senior citizens, special events and/or recreation facility management.
Abilities
Deal effectively and courteously with staff, program participants, and the general public; assist in creating, developing, organizing and directing recreational activities; work in a variety of recreational activity areas as assigned; maintain records and prepare written reports; transport and set up necessary equipment; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; present an overall professional image; effectively welcome and embrace differences among employees and citizens; perform effectively as a member of a team in carrying out the City’s stated mission and philosophy; perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
Experience, Education, and Training
Two years of work experience assisting with organizing and conducting recreational activities or in a supervisory position.
