Job Description Position Description:
This is a year-round, part-time position in which the Lead Recreation Instructor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading a variety of recreational, wellness, and social activities for participants with disabilities in an adult day program. This role emphasizes engagement in day-time recreation, healthy living activities, and community integration. The lead instructor ensures that all activities promote engagement and wellness across physical, emotional, social, and cognitive domains. Position hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30am-3:30pm – but may vary depending on program needs. This position also requires 4-8 curriculum planning hours a month. Applicant must attend all required trainings. Must pass a comprehensive background check and controlled substance test. Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the planning and research of programs and activities
Assist the Recreation Program Coordinator in implementing any protocols and guidelines published by the City of Raleigh, to include facilitation of Eligibility Requirements for participants
Lead program activities, assisting participants as needed
Prep, organize, clean/sanitize and inventory program materials
Modify activities as needed, or provide reasonable accommodation for participation
Monitor participants for safety, and address behavior concerns independently Drive participants in city vehicle (minibus) to various community outing locations Communicate effectively with supervisor, co-workers, parents/guardians, and participants
Document and/or relay accident/incident information to the appropriate staff . Attend and participate in all required trainings and staff meetings prior to start of position Typical Qualifications 2 years teaching/implementing recreation programs preferred Experience working with people with disabilities
Program planning and group leadership experience
Specialized training/education and/or certifications related to recreation/leisure activities preferred
Effective oral, written, and technologic communication skills
Professional, flexible, mature attitude
This position requires the ability to move around (long walks at times) and be able to lift at least 30lbs
