  • Collaborating with treatment team and planning recreation and rehabilitation activities
  • Teaching and coaching individuals on sports, games, and other group activities and encouraging participation
  • Observing and recording individuals’ responses to activities Minimum QualificationsCandidates from outside or within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if the have two years of experience in providing direct care to individuals receiving care and/or treatment in facilities and programs.

OR Candidates must be reachable for appointment as a Recreation Assistant from the Paraprofessional Careers in Mental Hygiene eligible list. OR Candidates from within State Service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

NOTE:

After two years of experience as a Recreation Assistant, Grade 11, the employee will receive a non-competitive promotion to Recreation Worker, Grade 14. Additional CommentsAll OMH employees receive a generous benefits package including:
