Job Description

Assistant Director of Fitness 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 30 Governors Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928 Assistant Director of Fitness General Definition of Work The Sea Pines Country Club Assistant Director of Fitness supports the Director in managing the fitness center, staff, and programs. This includes assisting with scheduling, creating and promoting fitness classes, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for members. The Assistant Director will perform personal training responsibilities, teach fitness classes and provide other direct services to members as appropriate to their skills and certifications. Essential Functions Supports the Director in managing the daily operations of the fitness center and pools, including scheduling, equipment maintenance, and member services. Assists in developing, implementing, instructing and promoting fitness programs and group exercise classes. Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising fitness staff, including group exercise instructors and personal trainers. Interacts with members, and addresses their needs and concerns. Assists with generating leads, following up with potential clients, and managing sales efforts. Ensures the safety and security of the fitness center and pools by enforcing policies and procedures, and assisting in emergency response planning. Performs administrative tasks such as scheduling, data entry, and reporting. Works well with other departments and team members throughout the club. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of fitness equipment required. Knowledge of pool operations or willingness to learn required. Able to perform fitness assessments and apply rehabilitation techniques. Must be certified in First Aid and CPR/AED. Knowledge of and ability to perform required role in emergency situations. Must be a team player. Education and Experience A health- and fitness-focused undergraduate degree in Physical Education with a concentration or coursework in nutrition, or exercise physiology preferred. Private club experience preferred. One to two years’ experience as a personal trainer at a neighborhood gym, physical fitness or franchise operation. Physical Requirements Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 30 pounds. Must tolerate work in an envirment that can be warm, humid, and moderately noisy. Must be able to work on pool decks, in locker rooms and showers that are often slippery and wet. Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs, balance and /or crouch. Continuous repetitive motions. Physical exertion over long periods of time. Regular Fitness conditioning required. Licenses and Special Requirements Must have certification from a recognized and accredited program such as that offered by the National Federation of Personal Trainers (NFPT), the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), or the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Other fitness certifications a plus. Certified Pool Operator certification a plus First Aid and CPR/AED certification mandatory
